Welcome to my reading corner

I love children's books. Even before I started having kids of my own I would peruse the kids section in libraries, bookstores and thrift stores. I am a textile artist by trade and that's what drew me to picture books, all of the illustrations, the colors and the imaginations of these writers.

I now have two boys of my own who love to read and when they were younger I never minded reading the same book to them hundreds of times if they asked. I have worked at two preschools and my favorite part of the day was always circle time where we would read to our future scientists and artists.

The Bat in the Boot

Written and illustrated by Annie Cannon

Copyright 1996 Orchard Books

Summary: Based on a true story, a family finds a baby bat in their mudroom and takes care of him until his mother comes back for him.

Likes:

1.  Beautiful and well written storyline.

2.  Positive message about bats.

3.  An explanation of the wu-fu symbol which has been adopted by Bat Conservation International.

Dislikes:

1.  Illustrations were done in muted tones of brown, gray and black which was fine for the basement but most drawings looked unfinished to me.
